Room for a baby

What’s the use of laces and rosettes?

Firstly, a new-born baby’s sight is 20 times weaker, than adult one’s sight. And the way it will be developing further depends completely on you. A child doesn’t just look at something well-known to him like we do. A child discovers the world, becomes acquainted with it. And this means, his visual memory is straightly connected with his whole development.

An American professor Bruner carried out interesting researches on the subject: “Influence of entourage on intellectual development of a child”. He divided a group of new-born babies into 2 parts, putting up one half of them in conditions, completely depleted of stimulants (just a white room), and another half – in a room with bright colored wallpapers, colored ceiling, windows, through which one could see doctors and nurses working, with parti-colored blankets and toys; the music was playing there too. In several months, tests were carried out to determine a level of intellectual development. Children from “empty” room were 3 months backward children from “colored” room in development.

Some calculations

Three months: it may seem, it’s such a short period of time during the first year of life. Count yourself. A period from birth till 3 years is equal to a period from 4 till 17 years, as for possibilities of intellectual development. This means the first 3 years are equal to next 14 years! Then, 3 months of this intensive period are equal to 14 months in future. This is why, even this 3 months gap is so hard to make up for.

Look around

Conclusion: an “empty” room, in the view of visual perception, hampers your baby’s development on a year and more. Mothers, who had to stay longer in maternity hospital or hospital, should put a special attention to this fact. White floor, walls, curtains, bed linen? There’s nothing worse than this jogtrot for a new-born baby. Remember it. And if it’s happened you cannot go home from the hospital at once, try to provide normal, not hospital, impressions for your baby.
