This was posted here (from DIME) about a month ago, and I finally got around to listening. It is amazing. A little crowd chatter (noticable with headphones), but the playing is phenomenal. The four of them are great together. Another great example like the MJB show from 12/24/99.

Does anyone else think that Alan Hertz makes some incredible sounds with his hi-hat? WOW!

I always felt that AH was a wee bit heavy on the snare during a more bluesy number --- he really dug in nice on the jazzier stuff though :)

KVHH is HOT!

I'll second that emotion.  This show (6-19-99) has stayed in my listening rotation (in my car) for longer than any other Kimock show.  Of course, you all know that I'm a total freak for the KVHH line-up.  I wish a soundboard would emerge at some point, from that era.
What was remarkable about that 6-19-99 show (among many things) is that--after about 8 songs, Steve says that they didn't plan on playing any more music--they've used up the whole setlist.  Then they wind up playing something like 4 more songs, including an incredible Bad Hair and probably my favorite version of Kissin the Boo Boo as the encore. Terry Haggerty is fantastic in this show, pushing Steve to new heights in just about every song, including one of those great It's Up to You's and an amazing Mr. Potato Head.  It is like Steve is 'shot out of a cannon' on this whole show; he's so fired up in his playing.

KVHH is HOT!

I have an unknown source of the fireman's benefit show that is an absolutely stellar recording. Pretty much perfect, and like you Gordon, it stayed in my car for years... Hadn't thought about it in a long time, and went and found it in the cellar after seeing this thread. Sounds much better than either source on archive.I'll up it to archive as an unknown stage recording this afternoon.

KVHH is HOT!

I'm going to have to pull out 6/19/99 now for the car. The KVHH period was brief and bright, only 9 shows IIRC. I love the 5/21-22/99 Chester's show. The first night has the IUTY/Mr. Potato Head sandwich while the second has both tunes played separately. The 5/21 What I Say is my favorite, a real smoker. Then there's the mammoth 5/16 show -- probably Steve's longest single performance -- which has a crazy Poonk > What I Say > Nefertiti sandwich. BTW, if you go to Wolfgang's Vault you'll find several live Miles Davis shows in which What I Say is played.

here here! 5/21-22/99 were amazing shows. I think even the bricks of the building were dosed for that run.

and for awesome Miles What I say versions, the Cellar Door sessions
have the unadulterated version (12/19/70) that is on Live Evil, as well
as some other great ones.

KVHH is HOT!

What an awesome show that was. It was my birthday and I flew to Santa Cruz (and the now defunct Palookaville) for that one show. Glad I did! The 'What I Say' sammich was great, Alan on the drums and was also Tom Coster's first show and he really shined at it. I think he was better before he knew the material!

KVHH is HOT!

Well, I knew Gordon would pipe in on this one. This little odd period of
1999 was both exhilarating and a preview of things to come in the early
2000's when Steve hooked up with Rodney and Mitch. Terry Haggerty was a
player that seemed to push Steve, much like (Gordon forgive me, but I
believe this to be true) Mitch Stein, at least in the beginning of that
relationship. Neither was as imaginative a soloist as Steve (really, who
is?) but both are brilliant accompanists and would often push the band to
great heights.

I would also recommend the 5/13/99 show as well, which I think was TH's
first sit in. I haven't listened to any of this period in a long time, but
for some reason, that one stands out in my mind. I still preferred the band
with Ray White. He added some magic that was lacking without him.

In fact, among the best Steve Kimock performances ever (IMHO) happened when
Ray re-joined the band but Haggerty stayed on through early September. The
summer shows at the Fillmore in SF and then the Wetlands in NY; culminating
at the Fillmore again on 9/19/99. That was some good shit. :)

Of course, the to ALL of it was the SK-BV connection. Can't wait till Aug 1.

Yes, indeed. Haggerty was a master of counterpoint during that period,
playing impossibly perfect riffs alongside SK's leads. Prime examples would
be Kissin' the Boo-Boo from 5/16/99 and Mr. Potato Head from 5/22/99.
Incredible.

KVHH is HOT!

This 6/19/99 Fireman's Benefit in Cazadero, CA was a great show. This was my first KVHW(H) show after having spent a semester in England (where I joined the original Zero list). I recently found the flyer and some pics from this show too. A tiny little stage with a parachute propped up like a tent over the stage.A few weeks after the show Lisa Yeager (hi Lisa!) hooked me up with a crispy recording on two 90min tapes (remember those:) I have great memories from this roadie as I had driven down to Cazadero from Portland by myself in my little VW Scirroco. I met up with some friends in Santa Cruz first. Goodtimes. 1999 was a great Kimock year all the way around in all his appearances and incarnations. The IUTU on this tape is great as is the Caz first timer/opener. My favorite KVHW show of all time is 9/9/99 at the Crystal Ballroom here in Portland. Great show all the way around with a triple encore Whipping Post sandwich if I recall correctly, it was a psychedelically fantastic night! Definitely check this one out. For some of you Vega virgins out there these two shows should be listened to.
My .02 pesos,Renato

Also I've been listening to 7/5/99 Tahoe from that period recently, not a
bad show either.

KVHH is HOT!

There was great synergies in play with the original quartet ... the four as one ... on any given night the heaven's DID open and the Golden Sunshine bathed us in Love.

Well, I knew Gordon would pipe in on this one. This little odd period of 1999 was both exhilarating and a preview of things to come in the early 2000's when Steve hooked up with Rodney and Mitch. Terry Haggerty was a player that seemed to push Steve, much like (Gordon forgive me, but I believe this to be true) Mitch Stein, at least in the beginning of that relationship. Neither was as imaginative a soloist as Steve (really, who is?) but both are brilliant accompanists and would often push the band to great heights.

I would also recommend the 5/13/99 show as well, which I think was TH's first sit in. I haven't listened to any of this period in a long time, but for some reason, that one stands out in my mind. I still preferred the band with Ray White. He added some magic that was lacking without him.

In fact, among the best Steve Kimock performances ever (IMHO) happened when Ray re-joined the band but Haggerty stayed on through early September. The summer shows at the Fillmore in SF and then the Wetlands in NY; culminating at the Fillmore again on 9/19/99. That was some good shit. :)

Of course, the to ALL of it was the SK-BV connection. Can't wait till Aug 1.

Andy
